About the Artist:
Alessia Potovsky
Alessia has been making art since childhood. Ever creative, at the age of eleven she and her best friend decided that they were going to start a jewelry business together, originally called Doodads. As Alessia grew and her interests changed, so did the face of this small business. Eventually, she changed the name to Dimmi.
In high school, Alessia began experimenting with printmaking, beginning with etching and drypoint prints. This sparked a love with the medium that continued through her college career and into the present day. In addition to drypoint, Alessia has worked in silkscreen, woodcut, and linocut.
During the lockdowns of the Covid-19 pandemic, Alessia rediscovered an old skill taught to her by her grandmother - crochet. And she was hooked (pun intended!). Since then she has experimented with making her own patterns, free-handing garments and accessories, and playing with color whenever possible.
Dimmi Handmade currently serves as the creative umbrella under which Alessia does her multi-media work.
Alessia’s work is very often inspired by nature, whimsy, and joy. She prioritizes working with natural and eco-friendly materials whenever possible. In her crochet work, she enjoys working in cotton, linen, bamboo, and wool. Much of her jewelry is made from upcycled materials - old jewelry pieces taken apart and made into something new and exciting!
